MK Debbie Bitton of Mish Atid explained today (Thursday) that she denies a political connection with Yair Golan, due to gaps in the perception of security and the attitude towards the Gaza Strip.
In an interview with Knesset Channel, she said: "When people ask me what you want in Gaza - then I tell you: I don't want anything in Gaza. I want there to be only a beach, and for us to see the sea from Sderot.".
She explained that because of this, her party cannot join forces with Yair Golan. "These are different perceptions. We are a center, and we should be treated like a center. There is a tendency, unfortunately also in the media, and intentionally as well, to join forces. But what kind of join forces? We are a center.".
Bitton later issued a clarification, saying that her words were aimed solely at Hamas terrorists: "I am a resident of Sderot, a resident of the encirclement. On October 7, I experienced and was exposed to atrocities that I did not believe could occur in the sovereign State of Israel.
"Despite the pain and trauma, throughout the entire period of fighting I have consistently called for a distinction to be made between the civilian population in Gaza and Hamas terrorists - mortal enemies. My statement this morning in the interview was aimed solely at the terrorists and their infrastructure.".
""As a citizen of the State of Israel, and as a public figure who represents the residents of the encirclement - I have not only the right, but the obligation, to demand that there be no terrorist entity beyond the fences of our homes.".
