It is difficult to find a Jew who was in the company of the great Rabbi Simcha HaCohen Kook, zt"l, who did not hear him sing this ancient melody with emotion and longing.

Rabbi Simcha HaCohen Kook heard "Vanrehu" from his friend, the Av Beit Din of Rehovot, the Gaon Rabbi Zevulun Gerz, zt"l, who heard the melody from Rabbi Yerucham Halevi Leibowitz (Mamir), zt"l.

Rabbi Simcha Kook served as the rabbi of the city of Rehovot for several years and as the rabbi of the 'Hurva' synagogue in the Old City of Jerusalem.

He gave his life and shed tears for the common and individual hardship. All his days were spent in anticipation of the salvation of God and the raising of the horn of Israel. His lips were filled with prayer and longing for the day when all flesh would see Him together - for the mouth of the Lord had spoken.

On the 3rd anniversary of his passing, his nephew Israel Meir published the tune that became the song of his life.

Arrangement and musical production: Uri Cohen I Voices: Zvi Rosenthal I Video clip: Rachel Yaffe

Words: "And they shall see eye to eye when he returns to his dwelling place, as it is written: For eye to eye shall they see the Lord's return to Zion: and it is said: And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken" (Prayer 'over all' at the time of the publication of the Torah scroll).
