State Comptroller and Ombudsman, Matanyahu Engelman, opened the national conference on Haredi real estate in Jerusalem today (Sunday). In his remarks, the comptroller referred to the high cost of housing and the inspections his office is conducting on the subject.

According to him, the cost of living is one of the critical issues for Israeli citizens, an issue that during wartime does not receive the necessary attention.

This is despite the fact that the cost of living has risen since the beginning of the war.

""My ministry is currently examining issues related to the high cost of housing in Israel. As part of this, the government's preparations for a shortage of foreign workers following the war are being examined, focusing on sectors of the economy that rely on foreign workers, including the construction industry," the comptroller said. "The failure to provide sufficient numbers of foreign workers both increases the cost of construction and poses a risk of employing foreign workers in their place.".

He added: "We are in the midst of a review of the 80:20 deals offered by contractors and how the state is dealing with the risks involved. In the report on 'Aspects of Taxation of Real Estate Transactions' we will also address the impact of the contractors' financing deals on the housing price index.""
