Baruch Dayan, the truth teller: At Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, the Gaon Rabbi Yechezkel Shraga David Halperin, zt"l, Dayan of the Sanz Beit Midrash in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem, passed away this evening (Saturday night), at the age of 59 - after a serious illness.
The late zt"l was born in London on the 2nd of Tevet 5726 to his father, the late Rabbi Yitzhak Aryeh Leibusch Halperin, the rabbi of Radomiszla, and his mother, the late Mrs. Liva Pradel, the daughter of the late Rabbi Shmuel Alexander Unsdorfer zt"l - rabbi of the 'Reshit Chochma' community in Montreal and rabbi of the Sanz Hasidim in Petach Tikva, in the 'Seftei Shmuel' rabbi's house.
In his youth, he studied at the Sanz Yeshiva in Kirya in Netanya and when he reached adulthood, he married his wife, Mrs. Feiga Bila, daughter of the Rebbe of Strafkov.
For years he served as spiritual director at the Sanz Yeshiva for young people in Jerusalem and as a shiur leader at the yeshiva. Later, he was appointed as the dean of the Sanz Beit Midrash in the Ramot neighborhood of Jerusalem.
He recently fell seriously ill and, to the dismay of his family, students, and acquaintances, he returned his soul to its creator this evening.
He left behind a blessed generation of righteous men: sons and daughters, sons-in-law and descendants. He did not get to lead two of his daughters to the wedding.
