Israel Fire and Rescue calls on the public to obey safety rules, so that we can pass Lag BaOmer safely and happily.

""Every year, on the night of Lag BaOmer, we are prepared in a very wide deployment throughout the country with a maximum presence of firefighters. To prevent disasters, parents must ensure that there is a parent accompanying each bonfire. Do not leave children alone near the bonfire, not even for a short time.

""We have all seen the huge fires and their consequences in recent days," says Lieutenant Commander Tal Wolbovitz, head of the Public Information and Training Branch of the Israel Fire and Rescue Service. "No one wants to be in a situation like this again. That's why it's important for us to remember: it only takes one small fire that gets out of control to cause a disaster, God forbid.".

Parents will ensure that the bonfire is lit only in a place designated for this purpose by the local authority and according to current guidelines from the Israel Fire and Rescue Service - and in addition, each parent will ensure that basic safety rules are observed:

  • Keep the fire away from residential buildings – Every year we experience cases where residential apartments are damaged by a fire that was too close.
  • Reduce the fire size. A fire that is too large can cause loss of control over the fire and, God forbid, disaster.
  • Never leave a campfire unattended by a parent – not even for a moment.
  • Prepare several buckets of water near the campfire site.
  • When finished, make sure the fire is completely extinguished.

It should be noted that the place where the fire is lit is not close to gas cylinders or electrical cables.

Lieutenant Commander Walbowitz asks: "The firefighters have worked with dedication in recent days to fight the huge fires and, God willing, no disaster occurred. Let's at least prevent what we can prevent. Keep your eyes open around you! Follow the instructions. This is extremely important.".

""We at Israel Fire and Rescue are doing everything we can to get through Lag BaOmer safely, and we believe that parents will make the necessary effort on their part.".

She adds: "Parents' vigilance is critical on this night. From our extensive experience, the difference between a proper ending and a disaster, God forbid, can be one moment when there is no adult watching over the place.".

In any case of fear of danger, call 102 for firefighters.
