UNICEF: 35% of Israeli children in poverty • Deri: "Stop starving the children""

Israel ranks fourth in the developed world in the number of children living in poverty, according to a report by UNICEF - the United Nations Children's Fund.

Shas Chairman, MK Aryeh Deri, addressed the report's data this morning - and attacked the government: "Netanyahu, Lapid and Bennett, stop starving the children of the State of Israel. The shocking data from the UNICEF report on the state of poverty in Israel is a shame and disgrace to the Israeli government and a warning light about what could happen if the Israeli government continues its policy of ignoring the cost of living and the welfare state in Israel.".

"Instead of engaging in populist laws and illusory proposals, Livni Lieberman and the other members of the government should come together and immediately return the benefits taken from these unfortunate children.".

MK Meir Porush commented on the report and said: "A million hungry children is a true social catastrophe. The Lapid-Natinahu government continues to prove that its only concern is to abuse Torah scholars and trample on the rights of the weak.". According to the report, 35.61% of Israeli children live in poverty. These figures are lower only than those of Spain (36.31%), Latvia (38.21%), and Greece (40.51%).
