US President Donald Trump spoke this evening (Monday) about the negotiations for an agreement with Iran over its nuclear program.
The president said: "I will solve the Iranian problem, it is a relatively easy problem. Iran needs to hurry with the agreement and it must not possess nuclear weapons.".
He said, "The Iranians want to reach a deal and don't know how to get out of it. They need to hurry, if we have to do something difficult - we will do it. Including attacking nuclear facilities.".
Talks between the US and Iran in an attempt to reach an agreement that would prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons began on Saturday in Oman.
The US and Iranian delegations arrived at the home of Omani Foreign Minister Saeed Badr al-Busaidy in the capital Muscat. The delegations were seated in two different rooms, with Omani mediators passing messages between them.
The talks lasted two and a half hours, and on their way out, the two delegations met in the corridor, where several direct talks took place between American envoy Steve Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi.
The Iranian state news agency IRNA reported: "The meetings were held in a constructive atmosphere based on mutual respect. After more than two and a half hours of indirect negotiations, the heads of the Iranian and American delegations spoke for several minutes in the presence of the Omani foreign minister as they left the talks.".
The White House also described the talks as "positive and constructive, a step forward in achieving a mutually beneficial outcome.".
