Minister Dudi Amsalem spoke out today (Monday), at the National Economic Conference of the National Federation of Labor in Eilat, strongly against the judicial system - and especially against the election of Justice Yitzhak Amit as President of the Supreme Court, despite the 'heavy cloud' over his head.
Amsalem said: "Judge Amit elected himself yesterday. They elect themselves, set their own salaries, and we are just cantons, coming once a year to vote. The guys up there do whatever they want. Some on the left think we are baboons.".
In an interview he gave to Yaakov Bardugo and Doron Cohen on Gali Israel radio, Amsalem said: "Yesterday, something very serious happened. The judges, invited by some official, gathered and elected a president and 36 other judges. It's simply unbelievable. Therefore, I am of the opinion that the government certainly should not recognize this process, neither the president, nor the judges - and if I were the Minister of Finance, I would issue a directive not to pay them salaries either.".
""This is a de facto coup. They don't accept the idea that the sovereign is in fact the people. For them, the sovereign is Amit and Solberg. There is a criminal gang of fifteen people here that has taken over the country, they have taken over all the centers of power in the country and the heads of the army, the Shin Bet and the heads of the prosecutor's office are with them. In any normal country, Judge Amit would be arrested tomorrow.".
Minister Amsalem added: "We are at a point of conflict. In order to save democracy, we must clash and come head to head with the coup plotters, and therefore I think that if I were Minister of Justice, tomorrow morning I would first bring the dismissal of the Ombudsman and then bring back all the laws.".
Doron: How do we fix this without dragging the country into civil war?
Minister Amsalem: "I have come to the conclusion that there is no other situation, there will be a civil war in the end. I am asking a simple question, let's say the Chief of Staff now takes four brigades and goes to the Knesset. What is the public supposed to do? It's the same thing, only here it's tanks and here it's judges.".
Amsalem added and claimed: "Even if we say I were to bring you a video showing Judge Amit robbing a bank, I'm sure they would pass it on and appoint him as president. They would tell you: 'He just took out a personal loan'... These are criminal people! Democracy does not perish because of its enemies, it perishes from the internal corruption and internal decay that is unfortunately found today in the courts and the prosecutor's office.".
Commentator Yaakov Bardugo said at the beginning of the program: "It's not enough that yesterday Judge Yitzhak Amit anointed himself with anointing oil and made himself king, his salary also increased to over 100,000 shekels a month. But in my opinion, what happened yesterday in the long term is one of the most positive developments that have happened here. This is a real breaking point and they don't understand it because they are arrogant and rude. Remember, in the end, the Israeli left is the one who will beg for a reform of the judicial system.".
