This week begins with the hard and painful news of the death of four of our soldiers in the Gaza Strip. More heartbreaking 'authorized to publish' messages. More young lives cut short. More families whose heavy loss will accompany them forever. Sadly, in war there are precious victims, who give their lives fighting for our safety and security.
In such difficult times, we all need to encourage and strengthen the bereaved families, and especially appreciate the work of their sons, who fought like lions for the entire nation.
We hear from many families that nothing will bring back their fallen loved ones, but they find little comfort in the fact that their sons fought so that we could live in peace in our country.
Political cynicism
It is inconceivable how, at such a painful time, certain politicians and journalists dare to make statements that supposedly our precious soldiers fell in vain, in an unnecessary war, and the like.
First of all, these are absurd and illogical statements, but even if there were a measure of truth in them - is it appropriate to say them before the funerals have even been held?! Did any of those making these statements think, even for a moment, what they do to the broken and grieving families?!
This is political cynicism at its finest, with no regard for the feelings of families or the people's yearning to unite around them. All that motivates it is the attempt to garner sympathy from a particular domestic audience.
And as mentioned, beyond the terrible insensitivity, these are statements that are completely illogical. And is this war unnecessary? Did we go into it just like that, because we are war-mongers? And what do these wise men think we were supposed to do after such a horrific massacre in the surrounding communities and all the atrocities that were committed there, and the kidnapping of hundreds of our citizens? And is there any sane person who does not understand that there is no choice but to destroy this diabolical evil, so that it can no longer even dream of such acts in the future?!
Isn't the exact opposite true? If we end the war before we recognize the monsters of murder, then the sacrifice of our best sons will have been in vain.
Throughout the war, we heard two words from them, repeated over and over again: "Until the end!" They did not go on another 'round', after which they would continue to talk about 'Hamas being deterred' and the rest of the nonsense they have fed us in recent years. The fighters were willing to sacrifice their lives to remove this terrorist monster from our heads once and for all.
Take advantage of miracles
Unfortunately, we are well aware of the mechanism by which they try to relax our hands and use the pain of the fallen to avoid doing the right thing until the end. This is how they led us to the shameful exit from Lebanon, which brought upon us Hezbollah's massive terror infrastructure, which could have brought a horrific disaster on the entire north of the country. This is how they caused the withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, the price for which we paid in precious blood.
God performs great miracles for us, and we must do the little that is required of us to create a new reality here, which will ensure the security of the people for generations.
Next week, with God's help, a new president will enter the White House, and we all hope that now we can truly end the war with the complete defeat of our enemies and the release of all our hostages.
