Last Thursday, Lieutenant Ivri Dickstein, 21, was killed in a clash with Hezbollah terrorists in southern Lebanon. Dickstein, 21, grew up in the settlement of Ali and lived in Elazar in Gush Etzion. He got married a year and three months ago and is survived by his wife Miriam, parents, and five siblings. His father, Ilan, is a retired colonel, commander of the Etzioni Brigade and former Golani Patrol Commander who was seriously injured in Operation Defensive Shield. After the family members returned from the funeral on Mount Herzl on Friday, it turned out that before leaving for his last mission, Ivri made sure to surprise his wife Miriam and ordered a bouquet of flowers for her along with a personal letter. That was when the phone rang at the family home and the flower delivery man was heard on the other end of the line, informing the widow of the shipment that had been ordered especially for her. When the bouquet arrived, the moving letter was also revealed, which seemed as if Ivri wrote it knowing that he might not return. He wrote: "My dear wife, I am writing to you again from the far north, hopefully for the last time. I am here, happy, and doing something significant for our people. I ask you to smile and keep your head held high. I am fine, don’t worry about me. I love you the most in the world. Treat yourself to chocolate and enjoy the beauty of the bouquet. Yours always, Ivri."
The widow Miriam said at the funeral: "My Hebrew, the love of my life, my whole world, my hero, the hero of Israel. As much as I admired you in your life, so do you now. How much light you brought with you, values and love of the homeland. I was privileged to be your wife for the past year and a half, to be by your side and walk the path together. Although the path was cut off in the middle, you are always with me. How much we dreamed of starting a family, living together and fulfilling our dreams, you wanted to be a father, a company commander, how many dreams will no longer come true.".
