Lebanese security forces arrested Yehoshua (Shuki) Tartakovsky in Beirut last night (Tuesday), an Israeli citizen, a former ultra-Orthodox from Jerusalem, who entered Lebanon two weeks ago under the guise of a journalist with a British passport.
Tartakovsky, a graduate of Brown University and LSE, entered Lebanon as an investigative journalist along with other journalists - but his behavior aroused suspicion that led to his arrest. A search of his belongings revealed his Israeli passport.
The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar - a mouthpiece of the terrorist organization Hezbollah - described Tartakovsky as a 42-year-old Israeli, born in the United States and working for the weekly "This is the Way" - which is affiliated with the Israeli radical left.
According to the report, the former Haredi and the journalists he entered with were staying at the Mövenpick Hotel in Beirut. When they searched for his name online, two articles signed by him were found on the website of 'Zo HaDerek'.
According to his social media accounts, this is not the first time he has visited Beirut.
Tartakovsky is also a British and US citizen, and his family has appealed to authorities in London and Washington to assist in his release.
