The Ministry of Jerusalem and Israeli Tradition launched a unique program of the Jerusalem Development Authority to strengthen the major hospitals in Jerusalem by funding research by interns and doctors working in the city's hospitals, with the aim of encouraging the retention of high-quality doctors in the city.
The total budget, totaling 12 million shekels, will be transferred to Hadassah and Shaare Zedek hospitals, to provide a research budget of 200,000 shekels per year, for two years, for specialist physicians who have completed post-doctoral training abroad - these physicians will be the main attraction for interns, and to provide a budget of 100,000 shekels for interns in those departments.
The plan was formulated after an in-depth professional review conducted by the Jerusalem Development Authority on the main challenges of the city's healthcare system and the shortage of interns who in recent years prefer to work in hospitals in the center of the country and should be encouraged to work in Jerusalem.
A special committee established under the leadership of the Ministry of Jerusalem and Israel Tradition and the Jerusalem Development Authority, together with the hospitals, identified the departments in which a more significant need for the program's activities was identified, and these days, the doctors have been given the opportunity to propose research and activities for budgeting.
