TV presenter Tzofit Grant, the wife of singer Shuli Rand, published a painful post telling friends in the neighborhood where the two live in Tel Aviv, how a woman walking her dog on the street attacked her husband and accused him of being a traitor - by collaborating with the government, due to his agreement to appear at the state memorial ceremony.
""My dear neighbors from Carmeli Street, I wanted to share with you a painful anecdote from this morning," wrote Tzofit in a post published on the 'Rabbanit' Facebook page.
She said: "Shuli, my beloved, left the house. As usual, he walked quietly, lost in thought about the turbulent days he was going through. On the street, a woman with a dog walked towards him. Every time he sees her, he greets her, but this time she beat him to it - and with chilling violence she growled at him: 'Contempt, collaborator! Traitor!'".
She continued to describe: "Shuli, with characteristic innocence, asked: 'Did you call me a collaborator?' 'Yes,' the woman replied angrily: 'Anyone who collaborates with the government that murders prisoners is a collaborator and a traitor.' Shuli, in his gentle way, tried to respond by saying: 'If you had only asked me...', but she interrupted him sharply: 'I have no interest in hearing you. You are a collaborator and a traitor, contempt for you!'".
Grant added: "Shuli stood there shocked, hurt to the depths of his soul. He called me in a trembling whisper, and told me how he felt. And me? I feel sick. Extreme sick at the ability of people to hurt and insult without knowing anything about the person standing in front of them and the pressures being exerted from all sides.".
She turned to that woman: "And to you, lady with a dog, I'm leaving here. This post starts on our street, but it will go on, until we all know who you really are. You arrogant bastard, if you did a quarter of what Shuli does for the families of the kidnapped, the bereaved, the wounded and the soldiers - in general, for our country - maybe you would earn a little respect. But instead, people like you are reducing our chances as a healthy society.".
