United Torah Judaism Chairman and Minister of Housing and Construction Yitzhak Goldknopf, who had been carrying around a note handwritten by Cabinet Secretary Attorney Yossi Fox for a while, promising to legislate the conscription law by a specified date in October, realized on October 7 that this note no longer had any real value...

In another world, the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, headed by MK Yuli Edelstein, is sitting and trying to enact a conscription law. But for now, it is not even close to any law.

In 2019, it was the Rebbe of Gur who opposed the law proposed by then-Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman. The Knesset was dissolved and the result was endless rounds of elections, a unity government, a government of change - and then another election, at the end of which a 'full right' coalition was established.

But this is a coalition that cannot even move a pencil from the left side of the table to the right side.

Will it be the Rebbe of Gur who will also dismantle the current coalition?

On the table: At a United Torah Judaism faction meeting, Minister Yitzhak Goldknopf read from a note the wording of an ultimatum, which stated that the deadline for enacting the law was three weeks.

Under the table: Inquiries by Haredi elements, some of them, with opposition leaders revealed that they do not have a better proposal for resolving the complex issue, certainly not in light of Kaplan's protests and the public outrage that Haredim are not enlisting (for the most part, at least).

According to some Israeli luminaries, if there is no other option, what would be the benefit of dissolving the coalition, even though it has almost no achievements for the ultra-Orthodox sector?

It is possible that the Rebbe of Gur will think differently. It is also possible that this is a pop-up gun that does not have real bullets.

Either way, rest assured that Netanyahu, who is prepared for any coalition threat, is also fearful now.

This concern led to Netanyahu's meeting with Goldknopf this evening. The prime minister promised the United Torah Judaism chairman to advance the approval of the conscription law even before the 2025 budget is approved.

Netanyahu also promised that in the coming days he will hold a discussion with all relevant parties, in order to accelerate the legislation.

A source in Torah Judaism says: "It is clear to us that this is a sale of illusions. There is no way to pass the law that is stuck in committee.".
