Great news for driving students: The Minister of Transportation is promoting the reduction of the number of driving lessons required to take the test.

On the recommendation of the professionals in the Ministry of Transportation and the Licensing Division: Minister of Transportation Miri Regev instructed the Director General of her ministry, Moshe Ben-Zaken, to promote a procedure to reduce the driving lessons required for taking the test.

Currently, driving students are required to take at least 28 practical driving lessons, each lasting 40 minutes.

The new procedure being promoted these days will reduce the number of lessons to only 22 lessons for students learning to drive an automatic vehicle.

The decision was made after thorough staff work led by the Director General of the Ministry of Transportation, Moshe Ben-Zaken, and the Head of the Licensing Authority, Yossi Nizri, during which comparisons were made between the countries in the European Union and the US, in relation to which the reduced number of lessons will still be large and will affect all the learning goals defined by the ministry.

It should be noted that an opinion is currently being formulated in the Bar Labad, which supports the position of the Minister of Transportation and emphasizes that reducing the number of lessons will not harm the competence of driving students. The new procedure will be published soon for public comments to be taken into account and in consultation with the driving instructors' organization.

The expected decision is great news for driving students and was formulated with the aim of easing the cost of living for students.

Currently, the price for a driving lesson ranges from 120-200 shekels per lesson, so the expected reduction will result in savings of hundreds of shekels for students.

It should be emphasized that the price of the lesson is determined in a free market and the Ministry of Transportation does not intervene in it.
