Holocaust survivor Rabbi Yosef Yaakov died this morning in a hospital in Jerusalem at the age of 93.
The late Rabbi, who lived in the Givat Shaul neighborhood in recent years, was a close associate of the Rebbe of Kaliv and the eminent Rabbi Avraham Yitzhak Ullman, a member of the Haredi Badatz, who was his neighbor in the building in Givat Shaul.
He was one of the founders of Haredi Judaism in Herzliya, along with the city rabbi, Rabbi Yitzhak Yaakovovich. He served as chairman of the Religious Council in Herzliya 50 years ago, and published the book 'From generation to generation your deeds will be praised' about the Holocaust. Despite what he went through in the Holocaust, he never complained, he always made everyone smile, and told of the great miracles he saw with his own eyes, when he managed to escape death.
He recently suffered a stroke and since then, a prayer meeting has been held at his home on Shabbat. The minyan was organized by a neighborhood resident, Rabbi Abba Turetzki.
His son is Rabbi Elimelech Yaakov, director of a youth center in Jerusalem, and his sons-in-law are Rabbi David Kingsbuch, a close associate of Rabbi Greinman, Rabbi Shmuel Wingut, and Rabbi Zvi Samuel, directors of the Shaalavim Yeshiva.
His funeral left at 12 noon from the Shamgar Funeral Home.
Sitting for 'Shiva' after the holiday.
