Singer and composer Idan Amid, who was seriously injured during the 'Iron Swords' war in the Gaza Strip, published a post on his Instagram account today (Monday) ahead of Tisha B'Av in which he spoke about his friend Akiva Yasinsky, who fell in Gaza.
""Two weeks before Akiva was killed, we celebrated Shabbat in one of the southern communities. A limited force that needed this moment, each for himself, with the charges that had accumulated with each of us after several months of fighting.
""It was important to Akiva that we gather for meals together. He was a monk. We would eat, talk a little, and then disperse to our own business. That Shabbat, we both walked a lot around the houses, long walks that were intended to fill gaps about the house, about what we left behind, and also about the situation in the Jewish people.".
Amadi also shared how Yasinsky saved his sight and hearing. "He asked me more than once, 'Where can we do more?' And I felt inside me as if he was telling me, 'Do more with me.' That Shabbat, he decided to take over my helmet and take care of additional protection. When I asked him what was urgent on Shabbat? He replied, 'Pikuach Nefesh, be prepared.' That's how, in a short and practical sentence, he saved my sight and hearing in that damned event.
""On the eve of Tisha B'Av, we are all exposed to current events, petty hatreds between our leaders, pettiness. Lack of understanding of the historical moment we are in. I no longer turn to them, only to us, as the late Akiva asked, maybe we missed something, maybe we can do more. I have no answers lately. Only many questions. And longing. I love you, my beloved brother, be a beacon of righteousness for us. We need it.".
