Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef was recorded talking about the IDF conscription of Haredim who do not study in yeshiva - and expressed strong opposition. In the recording published this evening (Tuesday) on Kan News, the chief rabbi is heard saying: "Every Torah scholar is exempt from joining the army, even those who are idle and do not study. Those who go to the army - they get spoiled. There are female soldiers, officers and profanity here. There are terrible things there, do not go there, period." His comments are published against the backdrop of the conscription orders that the IDF is expected to send as early as this coming Sunday to working Haredim and those who do not study in yeshiva.
