Iran's new president is the reformist candidate Masoud Pazhakian, who won the second round of the presidential elections in Iran today (Saturday).

Pzheshchian received 53.61% of the vote in the runoff against conservative candidate Saeed Jalili.

The voter turnout in the election was 49.81%.

When the election results were announced, many citizens took to the streets to celebrate, as Pazakhian had often expressed reservations about the Revolutionary Guards' treatment of anti-regime protesters in the major protests held in 2009, 2018, and 2022.

According to Reuters, the West is expected to congratulate the 69-year-old Pzheshchian on his victory, because he promised to promote a conciliatory foreign policy to ease tensions with Tehran and return to the nuclear agreement signed in 2015, and he is expected to ease repression of civilians.

However, according to Iran's system of government, the president has no possibility of leading to significant change in the nuclear program - an issue over which Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei has full authority.

It should be noted that the president-elect emphasized that he will try to repair relations with the Western world, but he does not intend to do the same with Israel.

Foreign Minister Israel Katz commented on the results of the Iranian presidential election on Saturday night: "The public in Iran sent a clear message in the elections of a desire for change and opposition to the ayatollahs' regime. Now the world must declare the Revolutionary Guards a terrorist organization and demand the cancellation of the nuclear program and the cessation of support for terrorist organizations. This is the only chance to realize the change.".
