Ninet and Moshe Levi, residents of the city of Kiryat Motzkin, lost two grandchildren in the fighting in the Gaza Strip within two and a half weeks.
Yesterday, their grandson, the son of their daughter Dalia, Sergeant Yedidia Ezogi, 22, from the village of Raveva in Samaria, a platoon sergeant in the 101st Paratroopers' Battalion, fell in Gaza.
19 days ago, they lost their grandson, their son David's son, Sergeant Daniel Levi, 19, from Kiryat Motzkin, a soldier in Battalion 931 of the Nahal Brigade, who was killed on May 10 with three of his battalion comrades in an explosive device explosion in the Zeitoun neighborhood in the northern Gaza Strip.
Mayor Tsiki Avissar went to their home to offer his condolences and wrote: "I left Ninet and Moshe's apartment. I was saddened by the cries of grief and could not find the words to comfort them for their heavy loss. I share the family's grief.".
Ninet, 82, is the head bather at the mikveh in Kiryat Motzkin. "She has difficulty speaking," family members say.
David, Daniel's father, told Ynet: "The family's pain is terrible and horrible. My mother lost two grandchildren within a short time. Both of them are soldiers, both were fighters, both fought in Gaza. Their deaths are so close to each other, it's something hallucinatory and inconceivable.
""Mom received the news of her friend's fall yesterday at eleven thirty at night. We received the news - we three brothers and our sister Dalia, who is her friend's mother. The brothers went to Mom's house to tell her the news. We brought with us the mayor of Kiryat Motzkin, Tsiki Avishar, because he knows the family and knows my mother well. We thought that might make it easier.
""My brother Uri was the one who broke the hardest news to her. I couldn't just hear it. These two grandchildren were close to her. Our beloved friend, he was simply a copy-paste of Daniel. They are both very similar in character traits, modest, humble, with respect for others, with a sense of honor. Respect for parents and grandparents. This is just part of what characterized them. They both chose to be warriors. They chose the hard way. One wanted Nahal and one wanted the Paratrooper Brigade, and both fulfilled their dream.".
Levy said that two days before his son Daniel was killed in the Zeitoun neighborhood, he spoke on the phone with his cousin Yedidia: "They talked about going into Gaza, and decided to try to meet inside. Unfortunately, they are both meeting upstairs now. I'm sure they are together, and I'm sure one is watching over the other.".
He added and said: "After Daniel's fall, Yedidia left the fighting, came to Daniel's funeral and also came to the shiva. He hugged the family and returned to the fighting in Gaza. Mother knew that they were in Gaza. Every morning, she first blessed them with her prayers and then the entire people of Israel, all the soldiers and all the policemen.
""After Daniel fell, she talked to my sister, and kept asking, 'What about her friends? Did they call? Did they update me on something?' She was very worried about him. The topic of worrying about her grandson completely jumped out after Daniel's fall. She wanted to get information from my sister to know that everything was okay. Just last week my sister Dalia came to comfort me, and now I come to comfort her.".
