Baruch Dayan, the true judge: In Bnei Brak, the rabbi Yochanan Idan zt"l passed away at the age of 70, after a serious illness.
The late Rabbi Avraham was born to his father, Rabbi Avraham, a scion of the illustrious Idan family, many of whose sons are among the sages of Jerba.
He learned his Torah from his rabbis at the Neve Eretz Yeshiva, headed by the Gra Rav Rapul, and later from the Gra Rav Toledano and the Grahav Zlivansky, at the Zohar HaTorah Yeshiva.
While still a young man, he toiled and worked for the Torah and was one of the founders of the 'Bein Tzamin' yeshivot in the city of Tiberias, at a time decades ago when the spiritual wilderness - especially among the Jews of the Eastern Orthodox faith - was great.
After his marriage, he studied in Tel Aviv, in a kollel headed by the Grahm Maya, and later in the Kollel of the Tzeirei Ponivez, where he even founded a class in Daf Yomi. Even on Fridays and Saturday nights, he never stopped reciting from the versification. Over the years, he became a student and favorite of the great men of Israel from all denominations and circles, including the Grahm Kanievsky and the Grahm Wasner, zt"l, and the late Grahm Gross and the Grahm Mordechai Karp.
Over the years, he became particularly close to the "Yoreh De'ah" Rabbi and member of the Council of Torah Scholars, the Gaon Rabbi Shlomo Machpoud, and would go with him to special slaughters. In years past, many of the kashrut committees would slaughter meat in accordance with the rulings of the Rema, which caused a great shortage among the Eastern Orthodox avrechim who were strict about slaughtering according to the author's opinion.
To this end, the deceased would go out together with Yavdalhat'a, the Grand Master of Mahafod, and slaughter poultry and livestock, and the meat they received would be distributed to the Abrahim.
Over the years, he earned a reputation as an expert in the laws of slaughter and Ben Pekoa, and would give special lessons in kollels throughout the country, alongside lessons on various subjects that he would give to the people in the fields for many years.
About five years ago, he lost his daughter, Mrs. Miriam, who suffered severe and bitter suffering, and after about two and a half years, it was discovered that he too had the serious illness.
For two and a half years he experienced severe torment and was more than once between life and death, but he accepted it with love.
On Tuesday morning, the decree was passed and he returned his soul to his Creator, in his 70th year.
He was buried in the Segula Cemetery, next to his daughter, H.H.
His family is sitting in shiva at his home, 18 Rabbi Nachman of Breslov Street, Bnei Brak. Condolences times: 10:00 to 14:00, 17:00 to 22:00.
