On the 26th of March 5774, during a battle in the northern Gaza Strip, Major (res.) Yossi Hershkowitz was killed. Yossi was the principal of a high school in Jerusalem, a highly respected and beloved educational figure. Singer Avraham Fried says: "A few days after Yossi's fall, I arrived in the village of Giv'ot in Gush Etzion, to comfort his dear family. That's when I became acquainted with his special character, a kind of extraordinary combination of gentleness of soul, modesty, kindness, wisdom and intelligence. Yossi's life song was accompanied by the violin, which he played well and through which he rejoiced and strengthened broken hearts. "The night before his fall, while standing on his watch, Yossi hummed the melody he composed at the beginning of the campaign, to Psalm 23 in the Psalms: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are my support..." Colonel Golan Wach, commander of the National Rescue and Rescue Unit, who fought alongside Yossi, remembered the moving melody and brought it to his family. May his memory be blessed. Composition: Yossi Hershkowitz | Arrangement and musical production: Yuval Stopel
