Attorney Haim Bleicher of Mhonenu wrote a letter to the Hebron police demanding the arrest of an Arab who attacked a Jewish shepherd earlier this week, near the Mitzpe Yair farm in the Hebron Hills - using an iron pickaxe.
The shepherd called the military, who rushed to the scene. When the forces arrived, the Arab tried to attack them too and retreated only after the soldiers fired into the air. The Arab was arrested by the police, but was released several hours later.
In his letter, Attorney Bleicher describes the incident: "On January 15, 24, near the Mitzpe Yair farm in the pastures of the farm, an Arab suspect arrived with a few goats and began approaching my client, waving a metal pickaxe at him. My client stepped back and called the army. A military force that arrived at the scene was also attacked with the pickaxe in such a way that the suspect threatened the pickaxe and advanced towards the soldiers.

""Only after the soldiers fired into the air did the suspect put down the pickaxe and was arrested by the soldiers. The suspect was arrested and my client went to your station to file a complaint. For an unclear reason, the suspect was released on bail that same day.".
Bleicher emphasizes in his letter that this is a serious incident, and that the police must arrest the Arab attacker and bring him to justice: "This is a serious incident of an attempt to seriously harm my client with a life-threatening instrument while he was grazing sheep alone. This is a suspect who continued his actions by attempting to attack with the pickaxe and was only arrested after firing into the air.
""Releasing such a suspect into the area constitutes an immediate danger to life and a serious violation of law and order. I will ask that the suspect be re-arrested and brought to justice as soon as possible.".
