Last night (Monday), a passenger was caught in the passenger hall at Ben Gurion Airport, when she tried to enter the country with bags of stones believed to be diamonds and gemstones weighing 210 grams.
The stones were hidden on the body of the passenger, who returned from Dubai - and tried to enter the country through the green lane, intended for returning passengers who do not have taxable goods to declare.
After being detained by the 747 police unit responsible for the Ben Gurion Airport area, the suspect was sent for examination by customs inspectors in the passenger hall.
Upon inspection, the bags of stones hidden on her were discovered.
The investigation, which is being conducted by the Jerusalem Customs and VAT Investigations Unit of the Tax Authority, reveals suspicions that the suspect worked as a courier and that she had carried out this type of smuggling in the past.
