The Israeli Consumer Council sent letters to the CEOs of retail chains regarding its decision to conduct monitoring tests of product price fluctuations in the chains - before, during, and after the publication of price baskets in the media, in order to prevent consumers from being misled.

The Consumer Council (CC) patrol did indeed monitor the conduct of the chains regarding published prices, and below is the data found.

The prices shown refer to the cost of the basket of groceries tested (45 products), on a network average, from among the branches tested on the dates listed -

From the data, it can be seen that the warning letter sent by the Consumer Council to the CEOs of the chains regarding its intention to examine price fluctuations in the chains during the holiday period resulted, for the most part, in discounts or stability in the cost of the basket throughout the month of September.

This inspection is part of the Council's actions to combat the cost of living and promote the level of fairness in commercial life.

The CEO of the Israeli Consumer Council, Attorney Ehud Peleg, says that food chains are beginning to recognize the importance of fair conduct towards the public. "Consumers' willingness to vote with their feet and wallets when they witness unfair behavior by a store is a very influential tool in promoting the level of fairness in commercial life.".

""The Israeli Consumer Council encourages the public to be proactive consumers, and will continue to monitor and reflect to consumers the level of fairness of the business sector, through various means, such as the Consumer Council's patrol tests and the fairness index that the Council developed together with the Research and Economics Administration at the Ministry of Economy.".
