Fighters from the Yahalam unit, infantry forces, special units and engineering forces of the Gaza Division, have been operating in recent weeks as part of an operation led by the Northern Brigade in the Gaza Division, using advanced intelligence and technological means - to expose, scan and eliminate a strategic Hamas tunnel route, which did not cross into Israeli territory.
This is a project built under the leadership of Muhammad Sinwar in the northern Gaza Strip. The ground maneuver, through intelligence operations in the field, provided a great deal of information about Hamas' terror tunnel project, and helped to deepen knowledge and mapping about it. Since the beginning of the war and even today, the IDF has been working to locate and destroy dozens of attack tunnel routes, as part of the systematic dismantling of Hamas' infrastructure. The IDF has carried out exploration operations in the tunnel, which is approximately 3.5 meters wide, and has so far uncovered over 4 kilometers of the tunnel route, which reaches a maximum depth of approximately 50 meters.
The nearest shaft of the tunnel is located about 400 meters from the 'Erez' crossing, which was used for the passage of workers, merchants, and patients to receive medical treatment in Israel in recent years. The route has several branches and splits that form a wide and extensive network of tunnels. The route had sewage, electricity, communications and telephony infrastructure, as well as the side doors that were designed to prevent the entry of IDF forces.

The tunnel is wide enough to accommodate vehicles, and many Hamas weapons were found inside. The tunnel construction project involved a team of dozens of terrorists who came specifically from Khan Yunis to the northern Gaza Strip to build it. The tunnel was built using materials never seen before in Hamas tactical tunnels, as well as special digging machines smuggled into the Strip.

According to estimates, Hamas has invested millions of dollars in the underground network throughout the Gaza Strip. The tunnel has been the launch pad for attacks against our forces during the fighting in the Gaza Strip. A few days ago, terrorists were even identified in the tunnel and eliminated by IDF forces.
