Under the guidance of the Knesset Director General, Ronen Plot, preparations for the upcoming year, the year of the Sabbatical, were completed on the eve of Rosh Hashanah 5775.

The preparatory work was done by the Knesset's gardening team, headed by Yossi Chernochov, and under the direction of the Rabbi of the Knesset - Rabbi Alex Hochman.

Due to the prohibition on planting and replanting during the Shemitah year, seasonal plants and flowers throughout the Knesset complex, from the "Welcome" sign area, the "Polumbo" Gate area, as well as in the plaza and inside the Mishkan, were replaced with perennial flowers that will not need to be replaced throughout the year.

In addition, all the trees on the Knesset grounds were pruned, so that there would be no need to prune trees throughout the year.

No new trees will be planted in the Knesset this coming year. Watering and maintaining the vegetation will be done as permitted under the direction of the Rabbi of the Knesset.

Rabbi Alex Hochman said: "In coordination with all parties in the Knesset and through teamwork, the Knesset is now ready for the year of sabbath, according to law and custom.".
