The deputy commander of the Islamic Jihad terrorist organization's rocket force, Ahmed Abu Daka, was eliminated yesterday (Thursday) in cooperation between the IDF and the Shin Bet.
Prior to the foiling, several actions were taken to enable the attack, while avoiding harming bystanders as much as possible.
This week, on Wednesday night, in a joint operation by the Military Intelligence Service, the Air Force, and the Shin Bet, Abu Daka was observed by aircraft, walking from his home without his family, toward the hiding apartment where he was staying.
His exposure made it possible to track him and act at the most appropriate place and time.
In the past, there were attempts to thwart him, but these were stopped in light of the presence of many uninvolved people around him.
Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Shin Bet head Ronen Bar recommended last night, in an assessment of the situation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to strive to end Operation Shield and Arrow in the Gaza Strip, in light of the fact that most of the targets for elimination have been exhausted.
Shin Bet chief Bar was more decisive, and together with the Chief of Staff recommended that Netanyahu avoid any premeditated Israeli attacks, except to thwart rocket fire into Israel.
An IDF spokesman responded: "We do not comment on what is said in closed and classified discussions.".
Shin Bet response: "They don't refer to closed discussions.".
