At the beginning of this week, Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir's "concentrated effort" enforcement operation continued in East Jerusalem, with the aim of enforcing the law and returning governance to the city's east.
From Sunday to Tuesday of this week, 4 illegal weapons and 11 Airpost pistols that were trained for live fire were seized. 72 suspects were arrested in the east of the city, in 18 special enforcement operations. Two illegal houses were demolished. These demolitions join 17 illegal houses that were demolished last week.
There were also 39 incidents of illegal confiscation of funds, and 113 traffic citations were issued in the neighborhoods.
Another move being made by the police is to increase the number of checkpoints set up in East Jerusalem and to increase inspection activities: 232 checkpoints were set up in these three days, during which 8,349 vehicles were checked, and in addition, 12,451 Arab residents living in neighborhoods and refugee camps were checked.
Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir: "Our governance in East Jerusalem should be clear to everyone. I thank the security forces and police who are working in the field all the time. We need to significantly increase our activity and our war on terror, and for that I am working non-stop, and for that we must also significantly increase the police budget, the standards, and add more police officers to restore our governance.".
