First disappointed: MK David Amsalem of the Likud announced this evening (Tuesday) that he does not intend to be appointed to the position of minister or deputy minister in the upcoming government.

Upon leaving the meeting with the designated prime minister, the disappointed Amsalem lashed out: "I just left a meeting with Benjamin Netanyahu in which he made it clear to me that I will not serve as Minister of Justice or as Speaker of the Knesset. I will eventually be a full-fledged MK - as I promised in advance. This is unfortunately the price you pay for loyalty and adherence to principles.".

""You have blessed the Likud voters and the residents of Israel from the Knesset - with dedication, loyalty and love, as is my custom in the Holy Land.".

Amsalem announced in recent months that if he is not appointed Minister of Justice or Speaker of the Knesset, he will not agree to accept any other position.

Netanyahu apparently offered Amsalem the energy or economy portfolio, but he is standing by his refusal. Before the meeting, Amsalem continued to insist on the ultimatum he had set, but sources in Netanyahu's office estimated that the crisis had been resolved.

According to a report on Channel 12, Netanyahu is considering keeping a significant economic portfolio for Amsalem, in the hope that he will join the government relatively soon after the inauguration.

Netanyahu began meetings with Likud MKs this evening in preparation for the distribution of roles to the party's MKs. Tomorrow, Netanyahu will continue his personal meetings with most of the Likud MKs.

During the meetings, he will inform them of what role they have received in the government or the Knesset.

Former Israeli Ambassador to the US Ron Dermer and former Foreign Minister Israel Katz are expected to receive the foreign affairs portfolio – in rotation. MK Amir Ohana will be appointed Speaker of the Knesset. Former Minister Tzachi Hanegbi will be appointed Head of the National Security Council.

Another disappointed person for whom Netanyahu is trying to tailor a suitable suit is MK Yuli Edelstein, who is considered a senior figure in the party and previously served as a minister and as Speaker of the Knesset. According to the indications, Netanyahu will offer Edelstein the chairmanship of the prestigious Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.
