Google published its 2022 search year-end lists this morning (Wednesday), which revealed the 'hottest' topics in Israel over the past year, in a variety of categories.

""World Cup 2022" came in first place on the "Top Ten Hot Searches" list.

The word game Wordle, which can only be played once a day, came in second place, while the TV show "Big Brother" came in third.

The return of Israelis to duty-free brought "Green Label" and Skyscanner to fourth and fifth places, respectively.

Hadar Mukhtar, chairwoman of the Burning Youth Party, although she remained far from the threshold, reached first place on the list of the most trendy people of the year.

In second place came actor Nero Levy, who is recovering from a car accident, and in third place was Knesset member and chairman of Otzma Yehudit Itamar Ben-Gvir. Russian President Vladimir Putin came in 8th place.

At the top of the list of people who passed away and whom Israelis searched for the most last year was the singer Zvika Pick, who passed away last August. In second place was the head of the Bnei Shlomo crime organization, who was eliminated in October. Also on the list were broadcaster Modi Bar-On, Rabbi Uri Zohar, in sixth place, and Rabbi Kanievsky, in seventh place. Queen Elizabeth only came in 10th place.

How do you formulate this year's lists in search?

Google compiles the lists by examining billions of queries it receives each year. The analysis uses an algorithm that compares the percentage increase in searches for a specific term over a specified period of time.

In addition to the annual summary that highlights the prominent trends of 2022, there are a number of additional tools that provide insights into past and present search, globally and in Israel.
