Getting stronger? News 2's new religion correspondent, Yair Sharky, appeared on the country's television screen for the first time today - and drew a wave of reactions.
Sharky's appearance, adorned with a pair of curly sideburns and a small goatee, and above all a large knitted kippah, caused a buzz in the sector, after his prime-time debut on the state's main edition of Channel 2 news.
Editor of Makor Rishon, Hagai Segal, wrote on his Facebook page: "It's a shame that Tommy Lapid and Shulamit Aloni didn't get to see it.".
Publicist Hanoch Daum from Yedioth Ahronoth wrote: "I don't fully know why, but to me there is something completely charming and almost moving about writing with wigs on Channel 2 news. Good luck, Shreki.".
The 21-year-old Sharky lives in Jerusalem, and until recently served as the religion correspondent for the Galatians radio station, until the end of his military service.
Sharky's religious appearance occasionally caused misunderstandings with the security forces and the police. On one occasion, he was even detained for questioning by members of the Shin Bet's Personal Security Unit.
In another case, which occurred several months ago, Shreki was beaten by Yasm police officers at a demonstration near the Zion of the late Rabbi Yosef in the Sanhedria neighborhood.
How exciting is it?
""I would prefer not to be interviewed right now.".
