Yossi Refaeli, a United Hatzalah medic, who lived nearby and was the first to arrive at the scene: "According to passersby, the pedestrian was hit by a bus that then hit several vehicles and finally crashed into a building under construction. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene after resuscitation efforts were completed.
""Firefighters worked to rescue the bus driver, whose condition is currently classified as serious. The drivers of the vehicles that were hit by the bus were treated at the scene in minor condition.".
A senior MDA paramedic on an intensive care motorcycle, Israel Weingarten, said: "This is a serious accident. We saw a bus empty of passengers crushed in the front part, after it collided with the entrance to a building at a construction site. A 70-year-old pedestrian walking on the sidewalk was hit by the bus. He lay on the sidewalk unconscious, with multiple systemic injuries. We provided him with medical treatment and performed CPR, at the end of which we were forced to declare him dead.
""The bus driver, a man in his 40s, was trapped in the driver's seat, unconscious, with injuries to his abdomen and limbs. While extracting him from the bus, we provided him with life-saving medical treatment, and after the firefighters completed the rescue, we evacuated him to the hospital in serious condition.".
The police said: An investigation has begun into the circumstances of a traffic accident that occurred last night on Yermiyahu Street in Jerusalem, involving a bus driver who apparently lost control and hit a construction site there.
As a result of the accident, a person (70) was pronounced dead and the bus driver was taken to hospital for serious medical treatment, according to medical officials.
