MK Elazar Stern: "Rabbi Eliyahu was offended by my words - I apologize for them""

MK Elazar Stern from the Movement announced this evening (Tuesday) that he apologizes for the harsh words he said this morning on Kalman Libeskind's program on the radio station 'Gale Yisrael' in the city of Safed, Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu, regarding the discussion regarding the conversion law. ח"כ שטרן כינה את הרב: "שמוליק אליהו" ו"סטודנט לגמרא". דבריו אלו עוררו מתקפות מצד חברי כנסת, אישי ציבור ורבנים. MK Stern is known for his hostility to Rabbi Eliyahu. Among those condemning Stern was MK Yoni Stevon of the Jewish Home, who said: "This is impudence and audacity, a clear product of the trend of harming everything Jewish here." According to Stevon, "the brutal erosion of the status of the rabbinate is the beginning of the end of the Jewish identity of the country.".
