The chairman of the Association of Community Rabbis, Rabbi Amichai Eliyahu, announced that he will not purchase Doritos snacks in protest of the advertisement for the Strauss snack brand.
""You don't need a survey to understand that most of the snacks in the State of Israel go to families with children, that is: religious, ultra-Orthodox families and families with roots," he said.
""It seems that the campaigners decided to financially harm the owners of the company that produces these snacks; the second alternative is that they think that there are 'transparent' people in the State of Israel, a public whose values do not need to be respected," he said. "The third possibility is that they decided that it was right to exacerbate tensions in Israeli society, even at the expense of certain economic losses.".
He added: "It's a shame that the Doritos people didn't learn a lesson from Ben & Jerry's mistake. We didn't need some organized call for a boycott at home to decide that we were bringing this snack into the house anymore. Even though my children unfortunately love it - it won't come into our house.".
Rabbis from the "Young Rabbis of the Good Land" also announced today that they will join the boycott of the Doritos snack.
""This is a shocking and ugly advertisement that offends one of the most important symbols in Judaism, father, mother, and children = family," said Rabbi Amit Pinchas, one of the young rabbis of the Good Land, in a conversation with Channel 7.
As reported in Haredim 10, social media users are calling for a boycott of Doritos snack brand products.
The reason? LGBT families of all kinds are participating in a new Doritos commercial for Family Day.
The Doritos YouTube account boasted about the new Family Day commercial: "There's only one family? Who said?! There are many families and they are all special. And even if it takes courage to dare to make choices, fly halfway around the world, or bridge two worlds, all families deserve to be families. To all families, wherever they are - Happy Family Day," it read.
Emmanuel Shilo, editor of 'Besheva', tweeted as the storm broke out on social media: "'Not buying Doritos. "...and not just because of health. A company that sells snacks should not take sides in controversial and charged value issues among its customers. Judaism only recognizes a family of a man and a woman. I will not interfere in the life of someone who chooses to live differently, but I will not give my money to a company that uses it to harm my values - the values of the Jewish family.".
