According to a Channel 7 report, the committee recommends appointing one of three candidates to the position: Yehuda Cohen, who was the head of the religious council in Hadera and Netanya, Moshe Dagan, who was the previous director-general of the rabbinate and currently serves as the head of the religious council in Haifa, and Rabbi Hillel Horwitz, who was the director-general of the Jerusalem Cemeteries Council and the head of the Jewish settlement in Hebron. Minister Kahane wanted to see Harel Goldberg, the acting director-general of the Chief Rabbinate, in the position. But Goldberg remained off the list. At the end of January, a permanent director-general is expected to take Harel Goldberg's place - for the next four years. Makor Rishon reported that 29 candidates applied for the tender for the position of Director General of the Chief Rabbinate, and 13 of them reached the final line. Now, as stated, three remain. The chairman of the search committee that will select the winner of the tender is the Director General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Moni Maatuk, and its members are the representative of the Chief Rabbi, a representative of the Civil Service Commission, and two other public representatives.
