The daring safe robbery: Robbers robbed a safe deposit box complex on Ahad Ha'am Street in Tel Aviv on Thursday evening, near the city's largest synagogue. They entered the building and overpowered the security guard who was there, tied him up and threatened to harm him if he tried to resist and disrupt their plan.

The robbery took place at 6:00 PM, when the two robbers arrived at the Ruthenium complex, which includes hundreds of safes containing money and property worth millions of shekels. The Ruthenium website states that the company's secure vault is "the first and largest in Israel. It is secured with the highest level of security currently available in the country." Although more than 48 hours have passed since the daring robbery, no arrests have been made in the case, but police say this evening (Saturday night) that the identities of the suspects are likely known. Police sources told Hadashot 12 how the robbery took place: Two suspects, in their 50s, arrived at the scene wearing only coronavirus masks and no face coverings. They spoke in French.
The two had arranged a meeting in advance, and informed them that they were coming to make a deposit in a safe. The security guard received them because he knew they were supposed to arrive, opened the main gate for them, and after they passed through additional security circles, including four steel doors that the security guard opened for them, they reached the counter, where they held a gun to the security guard's head. They tied him up and took him down to the basement, where they warned: "Don't mess with us, we didn't come to hurt you. Be quiet and you'll stay alive. Don't be quiet - we'll hurt you" - and began emptying safes.

About 10 minutes later, after the automatic alarm system in the secure safe room began to beep, the surprised suspects decided to flee with the loot they had managed to rob for fear of being arrested. Photos from the scene show some of the safes piled up on the floor of the complex, and some of their contents scattered around. According to a report in Kan News, the police have information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects in the safe robbery. They are apparently French citizens in their 50s. Despite initial predictions, according to sources familiar with the details of the case, the suspects managed to empty a few safes, and the estimate is that the total amount is only tens of thousands of shekels.
