Military Rabbinate Appointment Round: These are the officers who were promoted and raised in rank

The head of the IDF's General Staff, Major General Yaniv Asor, and the IDF's Chief Rabbi, Brigadier General Rabbi Eyal Karim, agreed today (Wednesday) on a series of appointments and promotions in the Military Rabbinate.

Major Rabbi Nir Yaffe will be appointed to the position of Chief of the Ground Forces and will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Major Rabbi Avishai Levy will be appointed to the position of Commander of the Northern Command, and will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

Major Rabbi Udi Schwartz will be appointed to the position of head of the Halacha branch at the Military Rabbinate Headquarters, and will be promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In addition, Lt. Col. Rabbi Yonatan Rubin will serve as head of the Identification and Burial Branch, Lt. Col. Rabbi Shoham Orkavi will serve as rabbi of the Central Command, and Lt. Col. Rabbi Chaim Weisberg will serve as head of the Kashrut Branch.

Channel 7 reported that about two weeks ago, Chief of Staff Kochavi and the head of the Military Rabbinate decided that the IDF Chief Rabbi, Brigadier General Rabbi Eyal Karim, would continue in his position for another term and lead the military rabbinate in the coming years.

Rabbi Krim's term will be extended by several years, and the decision on his replacement will be made by the next Chief of Staff - if he chooses to appoint a new Chief Rabbi for the IDF.
