Finance Minister Avigdor Lieberman today (Monday) retracted his statement yesterday at a government meeting, according to which road teachers should "change professions" - and apologized for the wording that caused a major uproar.
At the opening of the Yisrael Beiteinu faction meeting, Liberman said: "Yesterday we discussed in the government the state of the tourism industry. It is possible that my wording was very incorrect and unsuccessful, but the numbers are very correct. I will remind you that in the pre-Corona year we reached four and a half million tourists. This year there were about 327,000 tourist visas for the State of Israel.".
Lieberman added that the day after tomorrow there will be a final discussion with the ministers of finance and tourism - "and I hope that we will formulate an aid package and publish it. In general, in a situation where there is no employment in the economy, there are not enough jobs - we are going to proactive employment.
""In our situation, where there is a shortage of workers in high-tech, industry, and commerce, retailers are shouting that there are no workers. The right way is retraining. We are in the midst of the fifth wave, no one is sure there won't be a sixth. The approach is based on fairness.".
