Interior Minister Ayelet Shaked caused a stir after she posted a tweet on Twitter this morning (Tuesday) in which she called the latest wave of infections a "fake coronavirus disaster" - and quickly deleted it.

""We defeated the fake corona disaster, reality will defeat the next fakes as well," Shaked tweeted. After deleting the tweet - and the storm that arose - Shaked posted: "To all those who rushed to jump in, I'm sharpening the wording. Corona is raging in Europe. Thanks to the prime minister's quick decision to give the booster early and to the proper management of the entire system, the prophecies of rage in Israel did not come true. There are still many citizens who did not take the booster, it is very worthwhile to do so now." She later added: "Corona is not a fake. As someone who was a partner in managing the corona crisis, stood at the forefront of the propaganda, pushed for early vaccinations and also in schools, for the early application of the green note, it is impossible to suspect me of having intended otherwise. The intention was solely to the prophecies of rage that predicted the collapse of the health system - which did not happen - thanks to the proper management of the epidemic." The Religious Zionist Party responded to the tweet: "The State of Israel is led by irresponsible people, who do not know how to distinguish between truth and lies, between fake and reality. To the families of the 8,124 who died from the coronavirus, we say, your pain is real and we are with you. We apologize on behalf of the Knesset for the irresponsible statements of Shaked and his right." Chairman MK Bezalel Smotrich responded: "Yorem Les, behind you. A charlatan has found his kind." MK Michael Malchieli of Shas responded: "In my name and on behalf of my colleagues in the Knesset, I apologize to the 8,124 bereaved families, whose worlds have been destroyed, but there are those who are making cheap and despicable politics out of them. Sorry." MK David Bitan, who contracted the coronavirus and was hospitalized in serious condition: "Believe me, Ayelet, this is not a fake pandemic." MK Miri Regev: "Ayelet, you can delete people from Twitter, but you can't delete those who died from the coronavirus. You are a fake government, who time and again reveal your disconnection from the public.".
