The move means that citizens of these countries will be able to enter the US without a visa for 90 days.
""We have four candidates in the pipeline: Israel, Cyprus, Bulgaria and Romania. We are very focused on the plan," Mayorkas said.
Israel's Ambassador to the US and the UN, Gilad Erdan, welcomed the statement: "We continue to work with all our might so that Israeli citizens can enter the US freely and without the need for a visa, as should be the case with our closest ally. The clear statement by Homeland Security Secretary Mourkes, who is professionally in charge of the issue and with whom I met several times to discuss it, is very significant progress on the way to achieving the goal.".
Last August, US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Naftali Bennett discussed during their meeting in Washington the inclusion of Israel in the list of countries whose residents do not need a visa to enter the US.
