At such events, refreshments are ordered from the Knesset cafeteria, and when this is not the case, they are required to undergo an inspection by the Knesset Food Control Director.
According to a report on Channel 7, the inspection revealed that two bottles of wine were brought to the venue, one of which was not kosher.
However, the Knesset was asked to approve its entry into the Mishkan. The Rabbi of the Knesset, Rabbi Aviad Gutman, who arrived at the scene, explained that there was no permission to bring the wine into the party, as the Knesset strictly adheres to kashrut.
But then Minister Meir Cohen, who also serves as a MK, chose to use his parliamentary immunity and brought in the non-kosher bottle, despite the rules in force in the Knesset.
Minister Cohen's office said: "The minister brought in the refreshments without knowing there was a problem with the kosher wine. In any case, the office staff strictly adheres to Knesset procedures.".
