A senior coalition official criticized Naftali Bennett this morning (Tuesday), who revealed in a speech in the Knesset that the Mossad had launched an operation to uncover information about the fate of Ron Arad.
According to a report by Michael Shemesh on Kan News, the senior official said that Bennett should not have revealed a sensitive security operation in a political speech. "It disrespects the members of the security establishment. These were completely unnecessary statements by the prime minister," he added.
Bennett said yesterday at the opening of the winter conference: "Last month, women and Mossad personnel embarked on an operation aimed at locating new information about Arad's fate and whereabouts.".
Kan News reported last night that the operation to obtain the sensitive information was unsuccessful and no such information was obtained.
The Prime Minister's Office responded to the criticism: "The operation to obtain intelligence about Ron Arad was a successful operation that was carried out while meeting exceptional operational goals. Bringing the information to members of the Knesset and the general public was valuable, expressing the enormous effort and commitment to returning our sons to their borders, even many years after they fell into enemy captivity. Any dissemination of other information is a lie and a fabrication.".
