Political meeting: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi met today (Monday) with Prime Minister Naftali Bennett in Sharm el-Sheikh. Hundreds of thousands have already obeyed the 'Gadoilim' and received a third vaccination. And you? Bennett was invited to Egypt by Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel, who is also in charge of the Gaza truce talks. Bennett met with President al-Sisi privately, followed by a meeting of the extended teams. Bennett is expected to return to Israel this evening. The spokesman for the Egyptian presidency said: "The parties will discuss bilateral issues related to the relations between the two countries, ways and efforts to revive the peace process, as well as recent developments in the region and in international arenas." According to a senior Egyptian security official, Bennett's invitation was intended to introduce the two heads of state and strengthen bilateral ties between Cairo and Jerusalem, but the meeting between al-Sisi and Bennett is expected to focus on the Egyptian request to introduce large military forces into the demilitarized areas in northern Sinai. This is in order to allow the Egyptian army to better operate to eradicate extremist Islamic organizations and terrorist operatives in northeastern Sinai. According to the peace agreement with Egypt, the Sinai Desert is supposed to be demilitarized of large military forces, to ensure Israel's security. This is the first public meeting of an Egyptian leader with an Israeli prime minister on Egyptian soil. The last time an Israeli prime minister met with an Egyptian president was in New York in 2018, when al-Sisi and Netanyahu met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Netanyahu has met with al-Sisi several times, but most of the meetings were secret.
