After years of neglect and with unprecedented investment, the Jerusalem Municipality erected the largest green wall in Israel - at the entrance to the Holy City.
The wall, which spans an area of 3,000 square meters, accompanies the trip to the capital with a spectacular facade of textures, shades, and colors of rich and diverse Mediterranean vegetation.
The wall consists of 18 different species of perennial plants, including: lavender, yarrow, lariophaga, Chinese pepper, juniper, mint, guelphic, Thai Duranta, Eilat gum, geranium, variegated lariophaga, rosemary, woodland moran, and more, all of which have a changing appearance according to the seasons.
All plants were adapted to the climate, light and sun directions.
The vegetation was planted in special containers and the irrigation system was built to provide precise water drips to each plant.
In addition, a system was installed to collect and drain excess water, which is led through a vertical pipe to a lower drainage channel.
Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Leon: "This is a dream come true. In recent years, we have been working on the construction of this green wall, which is the largest and most impressive in Israel. The wall will accompany immigrants to Jerusalem along the way and give the city the impressive entrance it deserves. I congratulate all those involved in the work. It was a long one, but we succeeded. Congratulations to Jerusalem.".
