According to a report by David Baron in Israel Hayom, President Reuven Rivlin was also quoted in the message, congratulating the Belarusian people on prosperity, and wishing "personal well-being" to dictator Lukashenko.
The President's Office in Minsk proudly counted Israel's blessing, which appeared alongside countries such as Iran, Syria, the Palestinian Authority, Cuba, and Nicaragua, as well as Central Asian dictatorships such as Turkmenistan and Tajikistan.
A report on President Rivlin's greeting was also published in the state-run Balata news agency.
The UN Secretary-General and the Pope also appeared on the list, but their greetings did not include personal greetings to Lukashenko.
According to the report in Israel Hayom, President Rivlin's blessings sparked great anger among Belarusians.
""Please tell me this is a fake," wrote Alexei Leonchik, head of a foundation that helps citizens who have had to deal with the oppression of the last dictator in Europe. "If Rivlin did send such a message, we can downgrade Israel to the level of Erdogan-lite.".
Anton Mutalko, an entrepreneur and founder of one of the most popular Telegram channels in Belarus, quoted Rivlin's blessing and commented: "I understand that Israel does not care about the constant anti-Semitic statements of Lukashenko's propaganda, and does not care about its citizens either.".
Motelko also referred to the fact that two Israeli citizens were severely beaten by the dictatorship's police last August and imprisoned, without Israel demanding their release or caring for them.
The President's Office responded to Israel Hayom by saying: "The letter was sent according to the procedure used by the Foreign Ministry on national days of countries with which the State of Israel has diplomatic relations.".
More than 35,000 people were arrested and imprisoned for various periods due to protests against the rigged elections on August 9 last year in Belarus. The country holds at least 500 of its citizens as political prisoners, and 10 citizens were killed by "security forces" during the suppression of the demonstrations.
