Kan News reported that insiders fear that the bloc of Netanyahu's opponents will recruit Abbas to replace the Knesset Speaker, and they are trying to prevent such a scenario.
Transferring the position of Knesset Speaker to a bloc to replace Netanyahu would threaten the Prime Minister's control over the Knesset and legislative machinery, and could lead to personal legislation against the Prime Minister.
The report further stated that Netanyahu's opposition bloc has already begun working to try to enact the law that would prevent the imposition of the mandate to form a government on an accused person.
Lapid and Lieberman are leading the move in the bloc and have already spoken with other party leaders.
They are even considering replacing the Knesset Speaker in coordination with each other.
However, according to various estimates, the right-wing bloc will receive 60 seats, which will block the move.
Earlier, it was reported that MK David Bitan from the Likud did not rule out cooperation with RAAM Chairman Mansour Abbas.
In an interview for the program 'Shelley and Guetta' on Channel 2, Bitan said: "Even if they want to do something with Abbas, once there is 61-59 in favor of the left, the pressure on him will be very great. But if there is 60-60 and he doesn't want additional elections, because he has achieved a great achievement, it will be easier for him to do things in favor of what he truly believes in. There is a difference between coming to us and getting along with us.".
