Jewish Home Chairman Minister Naftali Bennett demanded this evening (Wednesday) that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu begin applying Israeli sovereignty to the settlement blocs – following the unilateral action of the Palestinians who went to the UN, in violation of the Oslo Accords and the understandings at the opening of political negotiations nine months ago.

""These days we are witnessing the decline of the political process," Bennett wrote to the prime minister. "The Palestinians have broken a new record of blackmail and defiance. After Abu Mazen refused to discuss recognizing Israel as a Jewish state, and after Israel released dozens of murderers in order to continue negotiations, the Palestinians have now blatantly violated the basis for negotiations and the Oslo Accords by unilaterally going to the UN. Moreover, throughout the negotiations the Palestinians continued racist incitement to murder Jews and paying 'blood allowances' to terrorists.".

As a result, Bennett stated, "It is clear that the current process has exhausted itself and that we are entering a new era. For years we have been banging our heads against the wall of negotiations time and time again - and unsurprisingly the wall does not break. The time has come for new thinking. I ask you to hold a discussion as soon as possible on an alternative plan (Plan B), in order to begin the process of applying Israeli sovereignty to the areas in Judea and Samaria under Israeli control - Gush Ariel, Gush Etzion, Ben Gurion Airport, Gush Ofra-Beit El, Gush Ma'ale Adumim, and more.".

""About 400,000 Israelis and only a few tens of thousands of Palestinians live in these areas. These areas are in broad national consensus and have security, historical and value-based significance for the State of Israel. This move will be similar to the application of sovereignty to Jerusalem during the Eshkol government and to the Golan Heights during the Begin government.".
