On the facade of the Scientific and Technological Institute of Halacha, at the entrance to the Beit Vegan neighborhood in Jerusalem, a modern sundial was installed this week, created and built over a long period of time by the rabbi Chaim Benish, author of the book 'Times in Halacha' - who is considered an authoritative expert in these matters of the times.

In ancient Jerusalem, it was common to place sundials on the facade of synagogues, such as at the "Horbat Rabbi Yehuda the Hasid", the "Zohari Hama" synagogue, the synagogue of the Shaarei Chesed neighborhood, and more.

This practice ceased with the British occupation in World War I, as the British changed the time clock accepted in our country to a regional clock centered in Cairo, which was called 'Cairo Clock' by the residents of Jerusalem, and thus the sundial lost its effectiveness.

Recently, Rabbi Benish approached the management of the Scientific and Technological Institute for Halacha, which serves as the central address for all issues of combining Halacha with science, with a proposal to create a unique integrated sundial that would also be compatible with the regional time clock, and after much effort and effort, he did indeed succeed in installing a sundial for the time used in our country.

They are planning to inaugurate the clock soon at a special event, where Rabbi Benish and the institute's rabbis are supposed to explain the principles of the new clock and its necessity in matters of halachic law.
