Unlike Haredi cities, the Netivot municipality did not launch "joy trucks" that would circulate throughout the city's Haredi neighborhoods. The one who decided to fill the void was Pinchas Yair, a young Haredi resident of the city, who founded the "Igud Haredim" organization, whose mission is to help with any problem, at any time - free of charge and without profit.
After hearing from many residents that the amount of activities the municipality does not satisfy all the city's residents, and that they would like a 'joy truck' to pass by their homes, to bring joy during the Sukkot holiday, he decided to organize a 'joy truck' - that would travel throughout the city and bring joy to the residents. He requested police permission, and after it was received, yesterday organized a Simchat Beit Hashoeva on top of the truck that passed through the city's streets. Pinchas to Haredim 10: "We did everything from moment to moment, I saw that the city's residents were yearning for an activity that would make them happy. We decided to put on this event and everyone involved really did their best. We requested police permission, and after we received it, we signed with singer Israel Shukron and keyboardist Eliyahu Binyamin." Who is funding the expenses for the activity you did? "We organize many activities." What for example? "A short time ago, we were contacted and complained about public transportation on Shabbat in the city. In the summer, Shabbat ends late and the metro lines would pass through the city before Shabbat ends. We launched a petition against this activity, we had over 1,000 people sign it in a day and a half - and, God willing, the transportation lines stopped that very week." In a conversation with the city's residents, it seems that the activity made them very happy. Eti, a resident of Netivot: "The children were waiting so long for the truck. At noon, when they announced that there was a 'Happy Truck,' I immediately called and asked them to pass through us. We have been expecting this since the beginning of Sukkot. I saw that many residents were very happy. I saw how residents came out and were happy. It is exciting that a private individual is organizing these things." Yosef, a resident of the city: "We waited for this for a very long time. Finally, a person came and took up the gauntlet and made the residents happy. The children were so happy." Last night, the municipality decided, after Yair's activity, to bring out a truck, "but really small," as residents defined it. "Today the municipality is making roads in the west, when until recently they said they didn't have police permission for this - and therefore there is no Simcha truck." [Gallery]
